Events and Check-In

Use Kiosk Mode

Kiosk mode gives students a limited self-service screen for checking themselves in while locking the rest of the account behind the launching user's password.

Permissions#

  • Organization admins can start kiosk mode for any accessible event.
  • Editors can start kiosk mode only for programs where they have editor access.
  • Volunteers without editor access can use list-mode check-in but cannot start kiosk mode.
  • An active 14-day trial or paid subscription is required.

Before You Start#

  • The event must be active and on its local calendar day in the organization timezone.
  • Use a device that can remain at the check-in location.
  • The person starting kiosk mode must know their current account password. That same account password is required to exit.

Start Kiosk Mode#

  1. Open Check-In.
  2. Locate the event under Today. If an eligible event is missing, open it from Schedule, open its details, and use Check-in options instead.
  3. Select Kiosk.

From an event details page, an authorized admin or editor can instead open Check-in options and select Start kiosk.

Let a Student Check In#

  1. In Find your name, type part of the student's first name or displayed last initial to narrow the list.
  2. Select the student's card marked Tap to check in.
  3. Verify the name in Check in [name]?.
  4. Select Yes, check in or Cancel.

After confirmation, the card is marked Checked in and is disabled. Kiosk mode displays first names and last initials rather than full last names.

Exit the Locked Kiosk#

  1. Select Exit kiosk.
  2. At Enter password to exit, enter the current password for the account that started the kiosk.
  3. Select Exit kiosk mode. Select Cancel to keep the kiosk locked.

Kiosk mode replaces the full workspace session. Refreshing or reopening the app does not provide a route around the lock. If the event is cancelled, deleted, moved off its eligible day, or otherwise becomes unavailable, the screen shows Kiosk is locked; the account password is still required to exit.

Expected Outcome#

Each confirmed student is checked in to the selected event. The audit log records the attendance action as a kiosk check-in. Exiting successfully restores the full account session.

Troubleshooting and Important Notes#

  • Password is incorrect: Use the password of the account that launched kiosk mode, not a volunteer's or student's password.
  • Kiosk event is no longer accessible: The event is no longer active, accessible, or on its local calendar day. Select Exit kiosk and authenticate to return to the workspace.
  • The Today group uses the device's local timezone and event start time, while actual kiosk eligibility uses the organization timezone and the event's full date range. An eligible event can be missing from Today when timezones differ or on the second day of an overnight event. Start it from the event details page in Schedule.
  • No students match your search: Clear or shorten the search. Kiosk searches the displayed first name and last initial.
  • Kiosk mode can check students in only. It cannot remove check-ins, create students, upload photos, or edit records.
  • Students already marked Checked in cannot check in again from the kiosk.
  • Grade-eligible students can appear even without a prior manual program assignment. Their first kiosk check-in creates a grade-based assignment to the event program.
